| Gocek and environs |
 |
The Fethiye Gulf where ecoclub inLycia is situated boats one of the richest cultural and environmental treasures of all Anatolia . The Gocek region, which is located at the point where the Tauruses meet the sea, offers the most attractive and beautiful bays of the Fethiye Gulf , and all the natural richness of the sea and the mountains. It is for this reason that many civilizations in history have chosen this spot to settle and develop.
In ancient times Gocek belonged to
Lycia; it is a mere 20 km. from the Dalaman Stream, which used to form a natural boundary between Karia and
Lycia, and 200 km. from Pamphilia. The region carries plenty of marks from Roman, Byzantine, Seljuk, and Ottoman periods. Besides archeological ruins and monuments, one can also witness the cultural and ethnographical richness of millennia in mountain villages that have only weak connections with the modern world.
